The Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4500V is not the first Vacheron that stole my heart. I was initially looking to consolidate my collection to a single daily watch that I would wear for my wedding day. I visited boutiques and Authorised Dealers, tried plenty of watches on, and came to the conclusion that the 4500V was the way to go due to many factors that I will touch on in a later article.
I met Glyn through the Vacheron Constantin Facebook group and we were both sorting out our purchases at the same time! We now catch up regularly about all things watches over the phone and our shared love of our timepieces.
For the first “Joy of Ownership” series, I thought it best to check in with Glyn and see how his watch ownership was going. If you want to talk about your watch in this series, feel free to email me at info@maltese-cross.com or grab me on Instagram at www.instagram.com/maltesecrossblog
For reference, Glyn has owned his watch for 11 months as of June 2020, and has a wrist size of 17.5cm.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST VACHERON?
Yes this is my first Vacheron.

WHAT’S THE STORY OF YOU PICKING UP THIS WATCH? WHERE DOES THIS WATCH SIT IN YOUR COLLECTION?
Like you, I was looking to consolidate my collection. For me just to one watch but that watch needed to be versatile and Haute Horology and that’s when the journey began. After hours of research on the net I came to the conclusion that I needed to see the Vacheron Overseas 3 hand in the flesh.
Luckily, I have an authorised Vacheron dealer very near so off I went. At the time the black dial was not available but I was told it would be soon, I liked the blue dial but thought the black dial would be more versatile and, in my opinion, give it a more timeless look, so I waited. I think you know what happened next!
This is my one watch collection ( for now ).

WHAT DO YOU LIKE (OR LOVE) ABOUT THIS REFERENCE? WHAT WOULD YOU PERSONALLY SEE IMPROVED?
Where do I start ……..everything; how versatile this watch is, from the quick strap change, which for me is the game changer, to the finishing of the case and bracelet and let’s not forget the movement – wow the movement!
The craftsmanship and finishing is amazing and still now, every time I take it off I find myself turning it over and getting lost in that movement. The way the light plays with the brushed and polished finishes, making it sparkle, especially the white gold around the lume filled batons and that gloss black dial with the outer ring which changes to anthracite in certain light.
Change the bracelet, which has a 2mm extension either side of the clasp, (excellent for fine tune sizing) to the rubber strap and you get a totally different look; sportier and slightly more comfortable with less weight from the bracelet. But most of all, for me, the appearance; it looks smaller on the wrist due to the case in stainless steel flowing to the black of the rubber strap.
The only improvement for me would be hacking seconds.

WHAT IS YOUR GRAIL WATCH FROM VACHERON-CONSTANTIN?
My obtainable grail Vacheron would be the FIFTYSIX COMPLETE CALENDAR just love that complication, but would need to see it in the flesh to decide on dial colour.
My fantasy grail Vacheron, would be the OVERSEAS PERPETUAL CALENDAR ULTRA-THIN PINK GOLD. Wow, that blue dial against the pink gold case and bracelet – amazing!
